Wharfe Valley Farms came up with a delicious and nutritious range of sugar-free mayonnaise in 2017.
It was the brain child of Sallyann Kilby, director of Wharfe Valley who, when diagnosed as a diabetic, wanted to be able to enjoy mayonnaise with a salad or a sandwich, but the sugar content meant it was now off limits. She set about testing out various combinations until she came up with a delicious, completely sugar-free, rapeseed oil based mayonnaise, made with free range pasteurised eggs.
Sallyann said, “Mayonnaise generally includes sugar, however I came up with an alternative, suitable for diabetics, which could be teamed up with a salad or seafood, so that I could enjoy a lighter lunch without compromising on taste.”
Since then Wharfe Valley have gone on to create five delicious flavours which were designed and tested in their own kitchen including lemon, lemon and garlic, smoked, smoked garlic and smoked chilli. The rapeseed oil base ensures that the mayonnaise has a reduced saturated fat content, making this a healthier alternative to traditional mayonnaise.
You can enjoy a sugar free mayonnaise or give it as a gift to a loved one and have a healthier Christmas.
